Next sunday (2021-04-25), the I.W.W. will organize a modest protest against ProRail, together with some other comrades. Since over 10 years, railroad workers have been working with cancer-inducing silica dust. Out of profit-seeking, ProRail has tried to cover this fact up, and they have not protected the workers’ health. This is disgusting and unacceptable! We will assemble at the Utrecht Central train station at 13:00, and we will go to the ProRail headquarters in order to show our solidarity with the railroad workers. For those intending to participate: please think about your own and your comrades’ health. Stay at home if you have COVID-19 related symptoms, wear a mask, and keep a suitable distance during, before and after the demonstration.
Update:
Today, the IWW (together with comrades from other groups) has held a protest action against the scandalous way ProRail acts to endanger the railroad workers’ health. We departed from the train station wearing gas maskers and other protective equipment (against ProRail’s poisonous policies) toward the ProRail headquarters. Once we had arrived, we deposited a poster and held a short speech. Afterwards, we returned to Utrecht Central to inform the public of ProRail’s abuses, by means of handing out flyers and more speeches. Meanwhile, other unions are discussing a new CAO with ProRail – we suggest they rewatch the Zembla episode, to be reminded of the utter lack of respect that ProRail has towards the railroad workers.
